2012 Super-Team Family: The Lost Issues: Wonder Woman and Wonder Man

Click For More!

The blogger Ross has been doing fan fiction cover mock-ups pairing groups of characters since 2010, but I guess he didn't see the point of creating The Brave and the Bold: The Lost Issues pieces with the Amazing Amazon when she already spent plenty of time alongside Batman in actual published comics. Wonder Woman finally got her turn the following year among the Super Friends before joining the Thing for one-on-one action in Marvel Two-in-One: The Lost Issues, soon followed by her supporting cast of heroines and villainesses. Continuing further into the Marvel Universe, Princess Diana meets Simon Williams as part of Ross' Super-Team Family!

What makes a pop culture icon?

"Would it be the effect of their contribution to a cultural movement? Is it the way they impact the time and the generation they are targeting? Or just how their exposure constitutes a defining characteristic of a given society or era?

As a child of the 80's I was heavily influenced by everything from saturday morning cartoons on TV to the music coming from the radio. Ian Curtis or Johnny Rotten are as iconic to me as Superman or Batman. Real people or imaginary characters, the incorruptible ideals of perfect superheroes or the human flaws and desires sometimes so desperately depicted in song lyrics - all of those influences affect us to the point of defining our character and personality, career paths and life choices.

The references we are exposed and specifically the ones we choose to absorb make us who we are. Who are your heroes?"
I freakin' love this. Totally in my wheelhouse, and Siouxsie Sioux is the most perfect amalgamation for Diana I can think of (Annie Lennox being too severe and Deborah Harry too passive, in my estimation. I case could be made for Chrissie Hynde, but c'mon...)

Sensational Comics for August, 2013

I'll talk about all those likely cheesy Trinity War books I'll probably still buy in a minute, but I have something to say first. I'm looking at these Arkham City action figures, along with the Infinite Crisis Atomic Wonder Woman statue, and I simply find it all friggin' repugnant. It's like Juggalos have taken over the design aesthetic of DC Comics. Generations to come will laugh at how vulgar and stupid we were for putting up with this crap. Just because super-heroes have gone mainstream doesn't mean it's okay to pander to literally the lowest common denominator of all possible audiences, and will either drown in fail sauce or push the entire medium back into the grimiest ghetto of popular culture alongside furries and the oeuvre of V. C. Andrews' ghost writer.

The amazing original graphic novel from the ALL-STAR SUPERMAN creative team of writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely is back in a new deluxe edition hardcover, that includes a gallery of preliminary art that’s never been published before! Ultraman, Owlman, Power Ring, and Johnny Quick rule their world without mercy or opposition, until the sudden appearance of Superman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League! Realties clash as the Justice League travels to an alternate reality to face off against distorted mirror images of themselves… This Deluxe Edition features a new cover by Frank Quitely, plus previously unpublished sketch material and more.
Wonder Woman had to be in this, because she's right there on the cover, but for the life of me I cannot recall what role she played in the proceedings. Morrison was notoriously poor in his handling of the Amazing Amazon in JLA, so confess some serious reservations about the long threatened Earth One graphic novel.

“For every hero, there comes a day. A day when they step forward. A day when talk turns to action. Over 8 million people have had their lives affected by the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa. It’s bad. And it hasn’t been this bad in over 60 years.

All of us at DC Entertainment are joining with Batman and the Justice League and making a stand. Today is the day we fight.”
